“14″ has been nominated for the Kenny Center American Collegiate Theatre Festival!

Based on true events in the author’s life, John Cameron takes a hard look at “therapy” that used electroshocks in an attempt to change same sex desire in fourteen young men, and the devastating effect of this procedure on their lives. Sometimes humourous, sometimes heartbreaking, 14 examines one man’s journey to find truth and forgiveness. In this memory play, the adult Ron looks back twenty-five years to his younger self as Aaron grapples with his relationship to the church, his girlfriend, his sexuality and his dreams and ideals.

Directed by Department Chair Bud Coleman and presented by students at the University of Colorado-Boulder, you are invited to our Dress Rehearsal on February 8th in the University Theatre.

“14″ has been selected to be one of four productions from seven western states which will be showcased at the American College Theatre Festival in Fort Collins. 14 will be performed on Tuesday 14 February 2012 at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm on the campus of Colorado State University.

This spring, the University of Colorado’s Theater and Dance department is joining forces with Environmental Science to offer an upper-division course, Inside the Greenhouse: Using Media to Communicate Positive Solutions for Climate Change.

The interdisciplinary course will combine assistant professor Beth Osnes’s narrative theory with the science, politics and policy of climate change, taught by assistant professor Max Boykoff.

“Hopefully we will inspire students to think about creative and engaging ways to translate these complex issues to the public,” Boykoff said. “Those sorts of efforts are what can lead to more sustained and long-lasting successes on these key challenges.”

The class will produce an educational and entertaining television show that Boykoff said he hopes will air after the class ends.

Tamara Meneghini was awarded Denver’s 2011 Ovation Award for Best Solo Performance, “Great Goddess Bazaar,” written by David Rush and directed by Jane Page. Notified of the award on December 25th, Tammy comments “kind of cool present, huh?”

A challenging and cautionary commentary on the consequences of our choices in a modern world where trouble most often finds us when we do the very thing, ironically, that theater inherently demands of us: Stop and think. Whenever anyone, man or woman, stops to ask, “Am I happy?” — chances are, the answer will be “no.”

Boulder premiere heading to Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.
